MUTANANNY

MUTANANNY is a gritty post-apocalyptic role-playing game (RPG) where you and your friends play as degenerate garbage-dwelling Mutants just trying to make it through their next awful day. Your characters trade meager goods, forge social bonds with other hideous weirdoes, struggle to survive the outside world, and deal with moon humans dropping back down to take back their world. This is not a game of magic or super-science, but of desperate misfits making their own way in a world that never wanted them.

Distinctive Features

The post-apocalyptic genre is a crowded one. To help you decide if this game is right way to express the yearning for ruin lying within you, here are a few vivid differences from most offerings:

• Soggy Apocalypse: Delmarva’s swampy, humid environment means off-road vehicles are the only kind with even a chance, and small boat travel through the wetlands is common. The sea is impassible, filled with giant crabs that can pry a boat apart in minutes.
• Mundane Mutation: PCs are Mutants, hideous human offshoots whose bodies stave off worldly pollution by frequent change. While often very weird, they are still biological changes. Psychic or magical Mutations are nonexistent or mere con artistry.
• Doomed Heroes: Live long enough and see yourself become a Monster. The downside of Mutations is suffering Meltdown, leading down the merry path to transforming into an incoherent protoplasmic abomination. There’s no coming back.
• Climate Catastrophe: the ongoing world-hazard is the result of the slow-motion disaster of climate change rather than the sudden impact of nuclear annihilation. It may not even be a catastrophe anymore; at this point the environment is cooling back down.
• METTLE Dice: this game runs on a heavily tweaked version of METTLE, a hybrid dice pool system that prompts for dramatic twists on a failure, like a devils bargain but after the fact.
